A Taste of Summer: New PEI Potatoes!

(Charlottetown, PEI  -  August 3, 2017)  New potatoes have been hitting Island grocery stores, and roadside stands are popping up across Prince Edward Island.  Locals and tourists alike savour this taste of Island summer.
Prince Edward Island potato producers, market gardeners, and students employ all sorts of methods to meet this demand for early potatoes.  The first step is green sprouting the seed to ensure that when it goes in the ground, it is ready to grow. 

It's Potato Harvest Time in Prince Edward Island!

(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE - September 28, 2017)  Harvest time has arrived for Prince Edward Island potato farmers! It’s a busy and exciting time of year, when farmers put in long hours to harvest their crop after working hard throughout the growing season to nurture and protect their world famous PEI Potatoes.  This is in addition to the other field crops grown as part of the potato rotation, being harvested in an increasingly diverse agriculture industry in Prince Edward Island.

(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE  -  May 10th, 2016)   Prince Edward Island potato growers are beginning one of the busiest times of their year...planting season.  Potato growers are excited to get on the land earlier than last year and plant the Island’s famous crop.  Planting marks the beginning of a new season and with it renewed optimism for a healthy, productive crop. 
 

PEI Potato Farmers Make Donations as a Result of Farm Day in the City Activities

(Charlottetown, PEI.  November 4, 2016.)  At the November 2, 2016 PEI Potato Board meeting, Chairman Alex Docherty was pleased to take time to present donations of over $2,100 to two worthy PEI organizations.  The money for the donations was raised through baked potato and fry sales during Farm Day in the City 2016.

PEI Potato Board Elects New Executive for 2016/17

(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE  -  December 15th, 2016)  The Prince Edward Island Potato Board has a new executive as a result of its December 14th Board of Directors meeting.  
 
Rodney Dingwell of Morell was elected as the new Chairman of the Board.  Rodney and his family own and operate Mo Dhaicdh Farms Ltd., growing processing and tablestock potatoes.  Rodney represents the processing sector for the Montague-Souris District on the Board.
