PEI Potato Farmers Make Donations as a Result of Farm Day in the City Activities

(Charlottetown, PEI.  November 4, 2016.)  At the November 2, 2016 PEI Potato Board meeting, Chairman Alex Docherty was pleased to take time to present donations of over $2,100 to two worthy PEI organizations.  The money for the donations was raised through baked potato and fry sales during Farm Day in the City 2016.
“This was our first year as title sponsor of the event,” said Docherty “and we were blown away by the interest and support of the public.  We had a large group of farmers on hand who were able to speak to the public about what they do and answer questions about potato farming in PEI .”  The use of the fry wagon and fries were donated by Cavendish Farms , W.P. Griffin of Elmsdale, PEI donated the use of their portable potato roaster and the baked potatoes and potato farmers cooked and served customers throughout the event.   The money raised through fry and baked potato sales was donated to the PEI 4H Council where it will be used to help fund some of the special activities this group provides for its members  and to PEI Family Violence Prevention Services where it will go towards their endowment fund.
